Why, and when, was FloraFemme developed?

I founded FloraFemme in 2005 because my daughter and I had suffered several bouts of odor-causing BV and itchy yeast infections. We tried everything: over-the-counter remedies (a little temporary relief, but the itch and odor always came back) and expensive prescriptions, which failed again and again.

You know what they say: "if you want it done right, you've got to do it yourself." So I did, with the help of one of the country's top-rated nutraceutical manufacturers, which is QAI, GMP and TGA-certified. As a woman, I want to help other women address this annoying, embarrasing problem. Too many of us are having to deal with it and I want to bring some well-deserved relief to women who haven't been able to find a solution elsewhere.

For more than 20 years, I have extensively studied health, wellness, nutrition, homeopathy, and both Western and Eastern herbal medicine. When I was younger, I worked for a number of years in the health-and-wellness field, both in sales and manufacturing. Not a day goes by without reading new research pertaining to health, nutrition, supplements and probiotics. I believe "natural" is a significantly better option in many instances, and it is the route I chose for FloraFemme.

Don't keep it a secret! What was the cause of your problems?

After nearly five years of research, I came to understand that our ongoing problems were the result of unbalanced vaginal pH and a low number of the right kind of beneficial, "good" bacteria. We tested many strains of these beneficial bacteria and eventually developed a highly concentrated "gold standard" blend (which you can read more about in the FAQs). FloraFemme helps balance vaginal pH and create colonies of good bacteria to help keep your vagina fresh and healthy. When those things are in place, you can really minimize the chances of developing conditions that cause odor and itching.

Why did you decide on an all-natural formula?

My philosophy is that the natural route is best route, and I'm very passionate about that. Your vaginal pH balance is naturally occurring, so it makes sense to address imbalances with a naturally-occurring formula.

I was alarmed to discover the potentially toxic side effects of Metronidazole (also known as Flagyl or Metrogel), the most commonly prescribed medication for BV today. Having used this product many times, I was worried about what it might have done to my body. In my case, severe headaches, body aches and nausea coincided with my use of Flagyl; others have experienced a range of very unpleasant side effects. These repeated experiences, especially in light of the fact that the prescription wasn't working — caused me to question its overall effectiveness. I essentially found the same thing to be true for prescriptions and OTC anti-fungals aimed at treating yeast infections. Not finding a suitable alternative for either of these troubling women's issues is what ultimately led me to create FloraFemme.

Synthetic prescriptions and over-the-counter remedies often don't work, but for some cases, medical intervention and a prescription may be the only avenue of treatment. If you're not sure about your condition, always consult a healthcare professional before you take any action to address your problem.
